Maybe you’re not in the market for a new job, but if the right opportunity comes along, you’d be willing to consider a switch. Passive job seeking is pretty standard – but how do you make sure that you’re taking the right steps to make sure you’re in front of the right job should it come up?  Here’s how to stay track without having to put in the same amount of effort as actively searching for work.

Be Active on LinkedIn

Being active on LinkedIn is one of the smartest professional social media moves you can make. In addition to seeing jobs you might be interested in, LinkedIn users are often proactively trying to recruit for positions and sharing news of their business growth. When you are regularly checking the LinkedIn platform, you can see more potential opportunities and be ready to act should just the right thing come along.

Set Up a Job Alert

Using a website like Indeed or LinkedIn to create a job alert is a smart move because it can keep you aware of certain position openings without you having to actively search. That way you can see at a glance if something is worth your time.

Stay in Touch with Your Network

Stay in touch with past coworkers, mentors, classmates, professors and anyone else who you have a professional connection with. These people are more likely to know your skills, experience, and interests and can connect you with news of a job that might be a good fit.

Work With a Recruiter

Working with a recruiter in the industry you want to work in can help you get further on finding the right job. By sharing what you want out of role, what kind of company you’re looking for, your salary range, and other essential details that you’d want to make sure were covered before starting the process of applying for a new job, a recruiter can keep their eyes and ears out for opportunities that might be a good fit. That way you only get contacted about (and spend time on the process) jobs you know you’d be interested in.
