More and more, tech candidates find that they have options when it comes to job opportunities. In many areas and for many companies, there are more open positions than there are qualified candidates. This shortage in tech talent means that businesses have to create the best hiring experience for applicants in order to increase the likelihood of an accepted offer letter. Applicants find that they have a number of factors to consider when it comes to choosing where to work – everything from company culture to benefits to salary to growth opportunities factor into making a decision. But the one thing that can drive potential employees away? A bad recruiting process and poorly managed hiring processes.

If you’re having trouble getting candidates to agree to additional interviews or you’re not getting enough offer letters accepted, a breakdown in your candidate experience may be to blame. Here are some things to consider:

Application

Not all applications are created equal. One of the number one candidate complaints about online applications is a company will ask for individual fields to be filled out after uploading a resume, essentially doubling the work of applying. If your online application isn’t streamlined, simple, and intuitive, you might lose qualified talent before you even begin.

Timing

If a candidate has to wait months to hear about a first-round interview, you may have already lost them to another company or position. You may want to build a pipeline to ensure a higher likelihood of interviews and quality candidates, but it’s important not to let too much time pass between applications and reaching out to candidates. It’s also important that weeks don’t pass between steps. If a hiring manager is out of the office or gets bogged down with a project that takes their attention away from the candidate search, the business as a responsibility to let candidates know about the delays. Finally, if a candidate isn’t a good fit, let them know right away. You never know how their experience with your business will affect reviews they give to other qualified candidates or even potential customers.

Communication

Communication is key to hiring success. Candidates shouldn’t have to wait in silence to know where they stand. Commit to communication with customers at every stage in the process and let them know what any next steps are, as well as when they can expect to hear back from you.

Turn to Kinect to Help You Find the Best Tech Talent

Hiring isn’t as simple as it used to be. Candidates want more than a job offer. They want to work for a company that cares about its human capital and is invested in them from the start. Don’t lose top talent (and waste money on a drawn-out hiring process) but not considering the importance of the candidate experience.
